Koinonia Class - Room 210
Koinonia is a faith based discussion group. We engage in vigorous discussion of the many subjects included in the ancient stories of our faith, our faith journeys, or our interactions with others. We recognize the God in each of us, even in the face of disagreement. As study guides, we use the Bible, articles from contemporary journals, books, and visiting professors. Koinonia is open to any and all adults. Infants are welcome if they bring at least one parent. Our group is conducive to dropping in any week you are available. The word koinonia carries the basic idea of having something in common. The word is related to (koine), meaning "common", which we use to refer to koine Greek, the original language of the New Testament, which was common to many people at a certain time in history.
Seekers Class meets in the Parlor
The Seekers Class was formed in the fall of 1962 because it was felt there was a need for a new class for the young married couples in the church. There are four current class teachers, all members of the class, with each teacher leading the class in one month rotations. Sunday morning class periods involve Bible study with emphasis on study of the New Testament, with occasional excursions into the Old Testament. Our study is accomplished by reading and guided discussion of a few verses at a time to discern their meaning, both to the intended audience and to us in our modern world. The continuing emphasis is on understanding God's message to us and how to implement it in our lives.
The class enjoys an active social calendar. The annual Christmas party with its gift exchange always provokes warm feelings. The class also attends other social functions such as concerts, plays and fifth-Sunday luncheons throughout the year.
Discovery Class - Room 206
